Genesis 2 … Consider His Generosity

Perhaps you are very familiar with the story found in Genesis 2. But this morning I was struck with the thought of how generous is our God!

Consider His Generosity

  • In His Generosity He provided rest. He sanctified and set apart the seventh day to rest from His labors, and this is to be a model for our lives. Rest is His idea. We need physical rest. What a gift, that He would show us from the beginning that to rest one day a week is to follow in His steps. But, even more importantly, we need rest from our spiritual efforts. Our rest is found solely in the work of Jesus Christ on the cross. Jesus alone can do the work of paying the penalty of our sins. If you’re not sure about your salvation, or you have never trusted Jesus for your salvation by accepting His payment for your sin by faith and confessing Him as Lord, please stop and do so now. The Bible says “that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved,” (Romans 10:9-10).

If you still have questions about your relationship with Jesus Christ and you don’t have a pastor or another believer you can talk with, please feel free to email The Planting Place at plantingplace@gmail.com.

  • In His Generosity He prepared a beautiful place suitable for man to live. And even more generous is the fact He was there with them! He placed mankind in His very presence!
  • In His Generosity He provided purpose for man, by allowing him the privilege of cultivating the garden. Purpose is an essential need of mankind, put in us by our Creator. God is purposeful and we are made in His image. Work is a gift and privilege; it contributes to our dignity as image-bearers of God.
  • In His Generosity He gave us the gift of relationships. “It is not good for man to be alone,” (2:18). Relationships were His Generous idea. It’s interesting that this is the first commentary from our Creator that is negative. Up to this point everything He saw was good. God is so good and so generous; He fixed the problem! This is our Generous God…He sees our need and provides!

As we consider His Generosity, how shall we respond?

  • Be generous in our gratitude for His salvation and His provisions; “…in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus,” (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
  • Be intentional to make our home a place where He is welcomed and honored; “…as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord,” (Joshua 24:15).
  • Be diligent in honoring Him in our work; “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than men,” (Colossians 3:23).
  • Be faithful in our relationships, that He would be glorified; “…and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds,” (Hebrews 10:24).

May we live as His image-bearers today and reflect His Generosity in our gratitude, home, work and relationships.
