Deuteronomy 23 … Consider Him Who Turned the Curse into a Blessing

Who but God can Turn the Curse into a Blessing?  Try, as the enemy might, his schemes and curses are powerless before Almighty God.

Nevertheless, the Lord your God was not willing to listen to Balaam, but the Lord your God turned the curse into a blessing for you because the Lord your God loves you. [23:5]

Although spiritual warfare is our reality, we are not defeated; for what was true for the nation of Israel is true for us today. The LORD our God is not listening to the voice of the enemy. Moved by His incomparable love, He has Turned the Curse into a Blessing.

Consider Him Who Turned the Curse into a Blessing

  • He Turned the Curse into a Blessing, and the voice of the accuser is silenced.
    • “Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our God day and night. [Revelation 12:10]
  • He Turned the Curse of sin and death into the Blessing of eternal life.
    • Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned… 15 But the free gift is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many… 17 For if by the transgression of the one, death reigned through the one, much more those who receive the abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ. [Romans 5:12, 15, 17]
  • He Turned the Curse into a Blessing through Him Who knew no sin.
    • He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. [2 Corinthians 5:21]
  • He Turned the Curse into a Blessing by His everlasting love.
    • “I have loved you with an everlasting love;
Therefore I have drawn you with lovingkindness.
      ” [Jeremiah 31:3]
    • For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. [John 3:16]

How do we respond to Him Who Turns the Curse into a Blessing?

Does the reality of what He has done leave you absolutely undone? It is beyond words to describe and human understanding to fully fathom.

  • Our response, though insufficient to measure up to His great gift, must be holy obedience.
    • When you go out as an army against your enemies, you shall keep yourself from every evil thing… 14 Since the Lord your God walks in the midst of your camp to deliver you and to defeat your enemies before you, therefore your camp must be holy… 23 You shall be careful to perform what goes out from your lips, just as you have voluntarily vowed to the Lord your God, what you have promised. [23:9, 14, 23]

We must understand the enemy will never give up in his attempts to derail us from obedience. But in Christ we have the victory.

  • We overcome because of the blood of the Lamb.
    • And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb… [Revelation 12:11]
  • We overcome by proclaiming all He has done for us.
    • And they overcame him …because of the word of their testimony…[Revelation 12:11]
  • We overcome by loving Him Who Turned the Curse into a Blessing more than our very lives.
    • And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death. [Revelation 12:11]
