Deuteronomy 29 … Consider His Secret Things

“The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law,” (29:29).

Who do you tell your secret things to? I would venture to say, like most people, you tell your secrets to people you consider your close friends and people you consider trustworthy.

And while many things belong to Him alone, does it utterly astound you to think of the Lord our God revealing His Secret Things… to the likes of us?

Consider His Secret Things

  • His Secret Things belong to Him alone.
    • “The secret things belong to the Lord our God…”
  • His Secret Things are His gifts
    • “…but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons…”
  • His Secret Things are eternal endowments
    • “…belong to us and to our sons forever…”
  • His Secret Things are given to empower obedience
    • “…that we may observe all the words of this law.”

How do we respond to His Secret Things?

The very essence of His Secret Things denotes much is hidden; our limited minds will never comprehend the rich and unsearchable wisdom and knowledge of God.

Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways! 34 For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who became His counselor? 35 Or who has first given to Him that it might be paid back to him again? 36 For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen, (Romans 11:33-36).

And Moses made it clear: not all will share in this glorious privilege of His great reveal.

And Moses summoned all Israel and said to them, “You have seen all that the Lord did before your eyes in the land of Egypt to Pharaoh and all his servants and all his land;the great trials which your eyes have seen, those great signs and wonders. Yet to this day the Lord has not given you a heart to know, nor eyes to see, nor ears to hear,” (29:2-4 emphasis added).

Although physical eyes had seen all He had done in the land of Egypt, had witnessed the Lord’s mighty signs and wonders, the gift of His Secret Things had not been imparted; a heart to know, nor eyes to see, nor ears to hear.

But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. 15 But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no one. 16 For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he will instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ, (1 Corinthians 2:16),

When we are born again the Holy Spirit imparts to us His precious gift of spiritual understanding. It is an indication of intimate and trustworthy friendship, proof we belong to Him, when we share in His Secret Things. And He says it is available for the asking.

Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know, (Jeremiah 33:3).

As we seek Him, He reveals His great and mighty Secret Things in His Holy Word.

The unfolding of Your words gives light;
It gives understanding to the simple, (Psalm 119:130).

There remain many secret things about this life of faith, but there is coming the day when we will know fully.

For we know in part and we prophesy in part; 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away. 11 When I was a child, I used to speak like a child, think like a child, reason like a child; when I became a man, I did away with childish things. 12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known, (1 Corinthians 13:9-12).

Until that day, we have the privilege of not only asking Him to reveal His Secret Things to us, but the blessing of being able to share our secret things with Him.

But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you, (Matthew 6:6).

What greater reward could there possibly be than the glorious gift of meeting our Heavenly Father in our secret place and receiving His Secret Things? How could we ever neglect our secret time with Him?

Let us daily meet Him in our secret place, to seek, learn and obey His Secret Things that will be ours forever; that each and every day of our lives would bring Him glory.

Let’s Grow Together!
