John 14 … Consider Him With Thanksgiving

Originally posted: 11/11/2019

Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away, and preparations for the holiday season are upon us.  And this morning, I found myself in the perfect place of preparation, the place to begin this season of Thanksgiving… in John 14. For in this chapter, the source of every good and perfect gift is revealed in the Trinity… the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

And while it may yet be a bit early, the truth is for every believer everywhere, every day is a day of Thanksgiving.

Consider Him With Thanksgiving

  • Consider the Father With Thanksgiving…
    • Who gave us His Son
      • “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life,” (John 3:16).
    • Who gives us His Holy Spirit
      • “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever,” (14:16).
  • Consider the Son With Thanksgiving…
    • Who gave His life
      • We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; (1 John 3:16).
    • Who gives us His peace
      • “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful,” (14:27).
  • Consider the Holy Spirit With Thanksgiving…
    • Who gives us new life
      • “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be amazed that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit,” (John 3:6-8).
    • Who gives us His presence and truth
      • “I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; 17 that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you,” (14:16-17).
  • Consider the Godhead With Thanksgiving…
    • Who are Three in One
      • “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you,” (14:26).

How do we respond to Him With Thanksgiving?

We have all we need in Him, and may our lives be filled with praise and Thanksgiving each and every day.

I couldn’t help but be reminded of the old hymn, Praise God from Whom All Blessings Flow this morning…  it was the first song playing as I began to consider Him. I love it when that happens!

What a perfect way to praise Him With Thanksgiving; the One worthy of all our praise today, and everyday.

Praise God, from whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost!

Let’s Grow Together!
