Psalm 26 and 27 … Consider the Place Where His Glory Dwells

O Lord, I love the habitation of Your house
And the place where Your glory dwells,
(26:8).

How fitting, that after seeing Him as the King of Glory yesterday, to turn our attention to the Place Where His Glory Dwells.

Glory: 3519. כָּבוֹד kāḇôḏ, כָּבֹד kāḇōḏ: A masculine singular noun meaning honor, glory, majesty, wealth, Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance.

Anything that is honorable, He is more so; anything that is glorious, He exceeds; anything majestic, bows before Him; anything of value, pales in comparison.

His Glory. It’s too much to take in, but it is what Moses asked to be shown.

Then Moses said, “I pray You, show me Your glory!” (Exodus 33:18).

And when God revealed His Glory, what He revealed was His character and nature.

Then the Lord passed by in front of him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin; yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations,” (Exodus 34:6-7).

God revealed all His honor, all His glory, all His majesty and all His wealth to His servant, Moses. The Place Where His Glory Dwells is the Place of His unparalleled perfection; the Place where we are privileged to see Him for Who He Is.

Consider the Place Where His Glory Dwells

  • His Glory Dwells in the Place of His lovingkindness and truth.
    •  For Your lovingkindness is before my eyes,
      And I have walked in Your truth,
      (26:3).
  • His Glory Dwells in the Place of His grace.
    • But as for me, I shall walk in my integrity;
      Redeem me, and be gracious to me.
      (26:11).
  • His Glory Dwells in the Place of His sure foundation and blessing.
    • My foot stands on a level place;
      In the congregations I shall bless the Lord.
      (26:12).
  • His Glory Dwells in the Place of His light, salvation and security.
    • The Lord is my light and my salvation;
      Whom shall I fear?
      The Lord is the defense of my life;
      Whom shall I dread?
      (27:1).
  • His Glory Dwells in the Place of His beauty.
    • One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek:
      That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
      To behold the beauty of the Lord
      And to meditate in His temple.
      (27:4).
  • His Glory Dwells in the Place of His protection and shelter.
    • For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle;
      In the secret place of His tent He will hide me;
      He will lift me up on a rock,
      (27:5).
  • His Glory Dwells in the Place of praise.
    • And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me,
      And I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy;
      I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.
      (27:6).

How do we respond to the Place Where His Glory Dwells?

These two Psalms are written from the place of need; need for deliverance; need for fortitude; need for perseverance; and the need for hope. And these two Psalms are also beautiful examples of the access we have to the Place Where His Glory Dwells: through sincerity in prayer, honesty in worship, faith in fear, and endurance in the waiting.

Oh, let us learn from David, the man after God’s own heart, that we would respond like him.

  • When we face a trial, let us ask the Lord to start in us. Let us ask Him to show us areas that need His cleansing, that we may be fit for the Place Where His Glory Dwells.
    • Examine me, O Lord, and try me;
      Test my mind and my heart.
      (26:2).
  • Let us make sure that the company we keep does not hinder us from coming to the Place Where His Glory Dwells.
    • I do not sit with deceitful men,
      Nor will I go with pretenders.
      I hate the assembly of evildoers,
      And I will not sit with the wicked.
      (26:4-5).
  • We cannot continue in sin and expect to have access to the Place Where His Glory Dwells. Let us always approach His Presence with clean hands through confession and repentance.
    • I shall wash my hands in innocence,
      And I will go about Your altar, O Lord,
      (26:6).
  • As we consider the wonder of the Place Where His Glory Dwells, let us honor Him with praise and thanksgiving.
    • That I may proclaim with the voice of thanksgiving
      And declare all Your wonders.
      (26:7).
  • Let us find courage in the Place Where His Glory Dwells to overcome every fear.
    • Though a host encamp against me,
      My heart will not fear;
      Though war arise against me,
      In spite of this I shall be confident.
      (27:3).
  • Let our desire to seek His face and favor rise above every other competitor vying for our attention; for what could be more beautiful than spending every day of our lives in the Place Where His Glory Dwells?
    • One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek:
      That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
      To behold the beauty of the Lord
      And to meditate in His temple.
      (27:4).
  • When we are in need of His grace, let us not give up, but rather let us listen for His voice as we, in tenacious faith, pursue the Place Where His Glory Dwells.
    •  Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice,
      And be gracious to me and answer me.
      When You said, “Seek My face,” my heart said to You,
      “Your face, O Lord, I shall seek.”
      (27:7-8).
  • When the enemy seems to be prevailing, we can depend on Him to lead us in a level path, to the Place Where His Glory Dwells.
    • Teach me Your way, O Lord,
      And lead me in a level path
      Because of my foes.
      (27:11).
  • When life brings pain and sorrow, we must not give up hope. We must choose to believe that He is good as we look forward to the day when we will see Him as He is in the Place Where His Glory Dwells.
    • I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord
      In the land of the living,
      (27:13).
  • As we wait for His provision and answers, we will find our courage in His Presence, in the Place Where His Glory Dwells.
    • Wait for the Lord;
      Be strong and let your heart take courage;
      Yes, wait for the Lord.
      (27:14).
  • And more than anything else, may we so grow in our love for Him, that we won’t be satisfied with anything else but His Presence, in the Place Where His Glory Dwells.
    •  O Lord, I love the habitation of Your house
      And the place where Your glory dwells.
      (26:6).

      • “The Lord, the Lord God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin…” (Exodus 34:6-7).

  1. How good is the God we adore,
    Our Faithful, unchangeable Friend;
    His love is as great as His power,
    And knows neither measure nor end.

    ‘Tis Jesus, the First and the Last,
    Whose Spirit shall guide us safe home;
    We’ll praise Him for all that is past,
    And trust Him for all that’s to come.

    The dear, gracious, Lord just led me to this site. Thank you for posting.

    Amen.
