Blessed be the Lord,
For He has made marvelous His lovingkindness to me in a besieged city, (31:21).
Even in a besieged city, David praised and blessed his God. And by faith, he looked beyond the now to the Who. And as I read these two Psalms, I was suddenly reminded of the ride at Disney’s Epcot, Soarin’ Around the World. It simulates a hang-gliding experience, providing an aerial view over some of the most beautiful sights in all of God’s creation. These two Psalms are like that. They lift us up above the temporal and display some of the most breathtaking visions and most beautiful sensations of Him Who Makes Marvelous His Lovingkindness to Us.
So today, let’s buckle up and get ready to have our breath taken away as we consider Him Who Makes Marvelous His Lovingkindness to Us.
Consider Him Who Makes Marvelous His Lovingkindness to Us
- He Makes Marvelous His Lovingkindness to Us as He answers our cries with His healing and peace.
- O Lord my God,
I cried to You for help, and You healed me, (30:2).- Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus, (Philippians 4:6-7 ).
- O Lord my God,
- He Makes Marvelous His Lovingkindness to Us as He bestows us with His favor and joy.
- For His anger is but for a moment,
His favor is for a lifetime;
Weeping may last for the night,
But a shout of joy comes in the morning, (30:5).- “If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. 11 These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full,” (John 15:10-11).
- For His anger is but for a moment,
- He Makes Marvelous His Lovingkindness to Us as He turns our mourning into dancing.
- You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;
You have loosed my sackcloth and girded me with gladness, (30:11).- “Truly, truly, I say to you, that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; you will grieve, but your grief will be turned into joy,” (John 16:20).
- You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;
- He Makes Marvelous His Lovingkindness to Us as our Rock Who leads and guides us.
- For You are my rock and my fortress; For Your name’s sake You will lead me and guide me, (31:3).
-
-
- “Everyone who comes to Me and hears My words and acts on them, I will show you whom he is like: 48 he is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid a foundation on the rock; and when a flood occurred, the torrent burst against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built,” (Luke 6:47-48).
-
- He Makes Marvelous His Lovingkindness to Us as He ransoms us by His truth.
- You will pull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me,
For You are my strength.
5 Into Your hand I commit my spirit;
You have ransomed me, O Lord, God of truth, (31:4-5).- “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many,” (Mark 10:45).
- You will pull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me,
- He Makes Marvelous His Lovingkindness to Us as He rescues us from the enemy and sets our feet in a large place.
- And You have not given me over into the hand of the enemy;
You have set my feet in a large place, (31:8).- For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, (Colossians 1:13).
- And You have not given me over into the hand of the enemy;
- He Makes Marvelous His Lovingkindness to Us as He lavishes us in His goodness and grace as we trust in Him.
- How great is Your goodness,
Which You have stored up for those who fear You,
Which You have wrought for those who take refuge in You,
Before the sons of men! (31:19).- In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace 8 which He lavished on us, (Ephesians 1:8).
- How great is Your goodness,
- He Makes Marvelous His Lovingkindness to Us as He hides us in the secret place of His presence.
- You hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the conspiracies of man;
You keep them secretly in a shelter from the strife of tongues. (31:20).- For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God, (Colossians 3:3).
- You hide them in the secret place of Your presence from the conspiracies of man;
How do we respond to Him Who Makes Marvelous His Lovingkindness to Us?
Praise; awe; amazement; thanks; those responses seem so much more than reasonable. And after we have considered how Marvelous He Makes His Lovingkindness, and that He Makes it Marvelous… to us, how can our faith not be bolstered?
And in our strengthened faith we, like David, can express our praise and gratitude even when we find ourselves in a besieged city. Whatever it is that is coming at us from all sides, we can extol Him for we know we have the victory in Him.
I will extol You, O Lord, for You have lifted me up,
And have not let my enemies rejoice over me, (30:1).
Let us ask Him to embolden our faith that we would looked beyond the now to the Who; for we have seen the panoramic view of Him Who Makes Marvelous His Lovingkindness to Us through His Marvelous light in Jesus Christ. And how can we possibly keep Him to ourselves?
Blessed be the Lord,
For He has made marvelous His lovingkindness to me in a besieged city, (31:21).
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; (1 Peter 2:9).
