Proverbs 16 … Consider His Way That Will Lead to Life

There is a way which seems right to a man,
But its end is the way of death,
(16:25).

Learning how to compare and contrast is an important thinking skill for every student. And Solomon utilized this teaching method throughout his wisdom literature. It is the nature of humanity to look for something better, and in today’s reading we are offered something so much better, we are offered the very Best: His Way That Will Lead to Live.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me,” (John 14:6).

I often quote this verse, but it is the Truth we need for Life. Jesus is the Way, the Only Way, That Will Lead to Life.

Every verse of Proverbs 16 is included in today’s post, as every verse is the wisdom of God, contrasted with that which what may seem right in the eyes of the world. And throughout every bit of this chapter, we will see Jesus; for He alone is The Way That Will Lead to Everlasting Life for all of eternity. But until then, if we will but take His Way, He Will Lead us to His Abundant Life during our time on earth.

“I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly,” (John 10:9-10).

How do we respond to His Way That Will Lead to Life?

It is His Way That Will Lead to Life for eternity… and also for our time here on earth. While we live with our eye on our eternal home, we are to live in His Way That Will Lead to Life here as long as we have breath.

There is so much to consider from today’s reading. Oh, that we would take time today, to examine and discern any ways in us that contrast with His Truth.

The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: the one who says he abides in Him ought himself to walk in the same manner as He walked, (1 John 2:4-5).

Let us not trust our own opinions or wisdom, but let us daily seek Him for His Way, the Only Way that is right and we can trust to Lead to Life.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight,
(Proverbs 3:5-6).

There is a way which seems right to a man,
But its end is the way of death,
(16:25).

And as He graciously reveals areas where we are straying from His Way, let us be quick to repent and willing to ask Him to Lead us, each and every day, in His Way That Will Lead to Life.

Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me and know my anxious thoughts;
24 And see if there be any hurtful way in me,
And lead me in the everlasting way,
(Psalm 139:23-24).
