The words of Moses are stunning.

“O Lord God, You have begun to show Your servant Your greatness and Your strong hand; for what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do such works and mighty acts as Yours?” (3:24).

Did Moses really say that? O Lord GOD, You have begun…? After all that Moses had witnessed, had experienced: the burning bush, the ten plagues and His great deliverance out of Egypt, the Red Sea, the cloud by day and the fire by night, the manna and quail, His judgments against the rebellious; Moses says “You have begun to show Your servant Your greatness and Your strong hand.”

Moses understood; all the works and mighty acts done by LORD’s strong hand were a mere fraction, only just the beginning, of His Greatness.

Consider His Greatness

• His Greatness is beyond the realm of human comprehension.
  • O Lord God, You have begun to show Your servant Your greatness and Your strong hand;

• His Greatness is beyond the realm of spiritual competition.
  • …for what god is there in heaven or on earth who can do such works and mighty acts as Yours?

 How do we respond to His Greatness?

• Like Moses, we would do well to acknowledge we have seen only a glimpse of His Greatness. He is vast and infinite and beyond our ability to comprehend. By faith, let us admit we do not have all the answers, nor do we need them. His Greatness is a fact whether or not we can explain it.
  • How great is God–beyond our understanding! (Job 36:26 NIV).
  • “For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
    Nor are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord.
    ⁹ “For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
    So are My ways higher than your ways
    And My thoughts than your thoughts,” (Isaiah 55:8-9).

• Like Moses, we would do well to acknowledge He is matchless, absolutely none can compete or compare. By faith, let us agree He is sovereign, on the throne at all times. His Greatness is matchless whether or not earthly events appear to agree.
  • To whom then will you liken God?
    Or what likeness will you compare with Him? (Isaiah 40:18).
  • Do you not know? Have you not heard?
    Has it not been declared to you from the beginning?
    Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?
    ²² It is He who sits above the circle of the earth, (Isaiah 40:21-22).

Although He is beyond our comprehension, by faith we know He is beyond all competition. In abandoned faith, let us accept His incomprehensible, incomparable Greatness. He has accomplished the inconceivable; He has lifted us out of the difficulties and dust of mere existence to become His royal heirs, secure in His Greatness forever.

Who is like the Lord our God,
Who is enthroned on high,
⁶ Who humbles Himself to behold
The things that are in heaven and in the earth?
⁷ He raises the poor from the dust
And lifts the needy from the ash heap,
⁸ To make them sit with princes,
With the princes of His people, (Psalm 113:5-8).

The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, ¹⁷ and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him, (Romans 8:16-17).

When we don’t have all the answers and when our understanding is limited, we must, by faith, remain confident in what He has shown us of His Greatness through the sacrifice of His Sinless Son and in the revelation of His Inspired Word.

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life,” (John 3:16).

So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; ³² and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free,” (John 8:31-32).

And as we take our stand in His truth, we too will begin to see His Greatness anew each day. Unrivaled and matchless, and beyond the realm of any and all competition, we can trust His Greatness to secure and sustain us in His love forever.

What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us?… ³⁸ For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, ³⁹ nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord, (Romans 8:31, 38).
