2 Samuel 2 … Consider Him Who Shows Us Lovingkindness and Truth

“Now may the Lord show lovingkindness and truth to you…” (2:6).

David’s blessing over the men of Jabesh-gilead absolutely gripped my heart. Could there be anything more precious than being the recipient of His Lovingkindness and Truth? The two are inseparable; without His Truth we would not know His Lovingkindness and His Lovingkindness is demonstrated in His Truth. Both are wholly unveiled in His Son.

Consider Him Who Shows Us Lovingkindness and Truth

• He Shows Us His Lovingkindness and Truth, perfectly united in our Savior, Jesus Christ
  • Lovingkindness and truth have met together; (Psalm 85:10).
  •  Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me,” (John 14:6).
  • But when the kindness of God our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, ⁵ He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, ⁶ whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, (Titus 3:4-6).

• He Shows Us His Lovingkindness (His Nature) and Truth (His Word) perfectly revealed in His Son.
  • God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, ² in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. ³ And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power, (Hebrews 1:1-3).

How do we respond to Him Who Shows Us Lovingkindness and His Truth?

• May we desire nothing more than to know His Lovingkindness and Truth through faith in Jesus.
  • “O righteous Father, although the world has not known You, yet I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me; ²⁶ and I have made Your name known to them, and will make it known, so that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them,” (John 17:25-26).

• May we grow to become people with hearts after God, that we would respond as David, in humility and gratitude to Him Who Shows Us His Lovingkindness and Truth.
  • I will bow down toward Your holy temple
    And give thanks to Your name for Your lovingkindness and Your truth;
    For You have magnified Your word according to all Your name, (Psalm 138:2).
