“Do you know the time the mountain goats give birth?
Do you observe the calving of the deer?” (39:1).
“Who sent out the wild donkey free?
And who loosed the bonds of the swift donkey?” (39:5).
“Do you give the horse his might?
Do you clothe his neck with a mane?” (39:19).
“Is it by your understanding that the hawk soars,
Stretching his wings toward the south?” (39:26).
Rhetorical questions. They are used to gain attention, to drive home a point, and are not expected to be answered. I wondered if after God’s first question, Job was wishing He would stop. In every question God voiced, He revealed to Job one of His amazingly divine attributes; qualities that only God can possibly possess.
And for every question God asked, Job knew the answer: Job was powerless and insignificant. And there was more: beyond a shadow of a doubt, God is Unquestionably Supreme.
Consider Him, Unquestionably Supreme
- He is Unquestionably Supreme; He is Omniscient (having complete or unlimited knowledge, awareness, or understanding; perceiving all things)

Or will he spend the night at your manger?

And there is none who can deliver out of My hand;
I act and who can reverse it?” (Isaiah 43:13). - And looking at them Jesus said to them, “With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible,” (Matthew 19:26).

How do we respond to Him, Unquestionably Supreme?
Let’s just stop and let this reality sink in. The God of the universe, the All-Knowing, All- Powerful, Creator, All-Present God desires fellowship with us. It’s really almost unbelievable. But it is absolutely Unquestionably true.
God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, (1 Corinthians 1:9).
- Oh, let us never lose our gratitude and wonder; for we have been called by Him Who is Unquestionably Supreme in His Omniscience. He knows everything about us, everything about our hearts, our minds and thoughts. And still, by His grace He called us. Let us walk in His calling as we seek Him with our whole hearts. He has promised we will find Him when we do.
- “As for you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind; for the Lord searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts. If you seek Him, He will let you find Him; but if you forsake Him, He will reject you forever,” (1 Chronicles 28:9).
- “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you,” (Matthew 6:33).
- And if we’ve learned anything from our time in Job, it’s a truth I heard in my small group from a very dear and godly friend: “Life isn’t always good, but God is.” And because He is Unquestionably Supreme in His Omnipotence, we know that even when our need seems painfully impossible, we can choose to walk by faith, believing that nothing at all is too difficult for Him.
- “Ah Lord God! Behold, You have the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for You,” (Jeremiah 32:17).
- Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, (Ephesians 3:20).
- All things came into being by His hand. And when we come to Him in humility and repentance, believing His Word for salvation, He will do what only He can; create us as His new creations in Christ. Let us commit to live by faith as we let go of the past and live in the newness of life we have in Him Who is Unquestionably Supreme in His Omnificence.
- “For My hand made all these things,
Thus all these things came into being,” declares the Lord.
“But to this one I will look,
To him who is humble and contrite of spirit, and who trembles at My word, (Isaiah 66:2). - Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come, (2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV).
- “For My hand made all these things,
- The truth is, there are days when life does not feel good. Days that spark fear and dread and worry about the future. Oh, may we never forget, He is Unquestionably Supreme in His Omnipresence and He is with us always. Let’s let that reality sink in, that we would walk in His strength and courage; for He has promised to be with us, wherever we go, even to the end of the age.
- “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go,” (Joshua 1:9).
- “…and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age,” (Matthew 28:20).
