Isaiah 32 … Consider His Coming Kingdom of Righteousness

Behold, a king will reign righteously
And princes will rule justly, (32:1).

I woke up so burdened. I have friends in real crises, suffering beyond what is anything but fair, severely hurting through no fault of their own. Friends in need of great comfort amidst the grievous pain of loss; friends praying for physical healing so needed; friends, like myself, pleading for loved ones to be saved.

Add to that the crises facing our nation and our world, and I found myself in near crisis beneath a paralysis threatening my hope as the burdens laid heavy with their menacing messages of despair. Hope, Lord; my friends need hope; our world needs hope; I need hope; oh, how we all need hope, for today and tomorrow.

And as I came to His Word, dragging the weight of my concerns and sorrows into His Presence, I hoped for hope. And oh, how faithful He is!

For although our hope is not always seen, our hope is sure. And today we are offered reassurance, strength and yes, hope, as we are again encouraged to anticipate that day when His Righteousness will reign and His Justice will rule; to that day when hope is no longer needed; to that day when our hope in His Coming Kingdom of Righteousness will become our reality.

Consider His Coming Kingdom of Righteousness

• His Kingdom of Righteousness, Coming to Institute His Reign of Righteousness and Justice
  • Behold, a king will reign righteously
    And princes will rule justly, (32:1).

• His Kingdom of Righteousness, Coming to be our Refuge and Shelter
  • Each will be like a refuge from the wind
    And a shelter from the storm… (32:2).

• His Kingdom of Righteousness, Coming to Satisfy our Need and Shield us with His Presence
  • …Like streams of water in a dry country,
    Like the shade of a huge rock in a parched land, (32:2).

• His Kingdom of Righteousness, Coming as our Healer and Teacher
  • Then the eyes of those who see will not be blinded,
    And the ears of those who hear will listen, (32:3).

• His Kingdom of Righteousness, Coming with His Discernment and Clarity
  • The mind of the hasty will discern the truth,
    And the tongue of the stammerers will hasten to speak clearly, (32:4).

• His Kingdom of Righteousness, Coming to Set Apart His Own
  • No longer will the fool be called noble,
    Or the rogue be spoken of as generous, (32:5).

• His Kingdom of Righteousness, Coming to Pour Out His Spirit from On High
  • Until the Spirit is poured out upon us from on high,
    And the wilderness becomes a fertile field,
    And the fertile field is considered as a forest, (32:15).

• His Kingdom of Righteousness, Coming with His Pervading Presence
  • Then justice will dwell in the wilderness
    And righteousness will abide in the fertile field, (32:16).

• His Kingdom of Righteousness, Coming to Manifest His Eternal Peace and Confidence
  • And the work of righteousness will be peace,
    And the service of righteousness, quietness and confidence forever, (32:17).

• His Kingdom of Righteousness, Coming to Establish us in His Peaceful Security and Undisturbed Rest
  • Then my people will live in a peaceful habitation,
    And in secure dwellings and in undisturbed resting places, (32:18).

How do we respond to His Coming Kingdom of Righteousness?

I need to begin today’s response section with this thought: the three-year reading plan for The Planting Place was first developed in November of 2015. And I sit here this morning, utterly amazed and beyond grateful. Utterly amazed how He met me with exactly what I needed today, through a reading plan constructed more than six years ago. And beyond grateful that His Inspired Word is alive, speaking the wisdom needed that turns me away from despair, that turns me towards the hope He gives in His Coming Kingdom of Righteousness.

For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart, (Hebrews 4:12).

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness, (2 Timothy 3:16).

This truly is the response we need every day, that we would not be consumed with the trials and troubles of this world, for though they are real enough, that is not our ultimate reality.

But pain and sorrow fight hard to keep our attention and we desperately need His Living, Inspired Word, each and every day, to redirect our heart’s focus.

Today, let us not give into despair. Let us ask Him to strengthen us in His Word each and every day, that we would be filled with hope for every today and every tomorrow in every promise as we wait in faith for that day when His Coming Kingdom of Righteousness becomes our reality for all of eternity.

I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord
In the land of the living.
¹⁴ Wait for the Lord;
Be strong and let your heart take courage;
Yes, wait for the Lord, (Psalm 27:13-14).
