Ezekiel 45 … Consider Him Who Will Establish His Everlasting Equity

Thus says the Lord God, “Enough, you princes of Israel; put away violence and destruction, and practice justice and righteousness. Stop your expropriations from My people,” declares the Lord God, (45:9).

There is much attention given to offerings in this chapter. But because Scripture clearly states that Jesus came to satisfy the wrath of God and to make propitiation as the perfect Offering for our sins once for all time, scholars believe the sacrificial offerings will be reinstated in the new millennium solely to commemorate and honor the perfect sinless sacrifice of our faithful High Priest.

Therefore, He had to be made like His brethren in all things, so that He might become a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people, (Hebrews 2:17).

but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of God, (Hebrews 10:1).

But we will leave that discussion to theologians. Today, as we seek to see Him increase in these passages that offer interpretation challenges, it is certainly no challenge to see that He has had enough of the violence, destruction, unlawful seizure of property (expropriation), oppression, and injustice in His land and amongst His people.

“This shall be his land for a possession in Israel; so My princes shall no longer oppress My people, but they shall give the rest of the land to the house of Israel according to their tribes.” ⁹ ‘Thus says the Lord God, “Enough, you princes of Israel; put away violence and destruction, and practice justice and righteousness. Stop your expropriations from My people,” declares the Lord God. ¹⁰ “You shall have just balances, a just ephah and a just bath,” (45:8-10).

And He has declared that the day is coming when He Will Establish His Everlasting Equity in His people and in His land.

Equity: the state, quality or ideal of being just, impartial and fair.

And in our reading today, God declares that He will again Establish the state of being just, impartial and fair in everything; perfectly accomplished through His Sinless Son, the Lamb of God Who takes away the sins of the world.

The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29).

Consider Him Who Will Establish His Everlasting Equity

• He Will Establish His Everlasting Equity, Ending Oppression.
  • “This shall be his land for a possession in Israel; so My princes shall no longer oppress My people, but they shall give the rest of the land to the house of Israel according to their tribes,” (45:8).
    • “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
      Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor.
      He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives,
      And recovery of sight to the blind,
      To set free those who are oppressed,
      ¹⁹ To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord,” … ²¹ And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” (Luke 4:18-19, 21).

• He Will Establish His Everlasting Equity, Ending Violence and Destruction
  • ‘Thus says the Lord God, “Enough, you princes of Israel; put away violence and destruction…” (45:9).
    • “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly,” (John 10:10).

• He Will Establish His Everlasting Equity, Effecting Justice and Righteousness
  • “…and practice justice and righteousness. Stop your expropriations from My people,” declares the Lord God, (45:9).
    • and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously; ²⁴ and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed, (1 Peter 2:23-24).

• He Will Establish His Everlasting Equity, Effecting Impartiality for All
  •  “You shall have just balances, a just ephah and a just bath,” (45:10).
    • Opening his mouth, Peter said: “I most certainly understand now that God is not one to show partiality, ³⁵ but in every nation the man who fears Him and does what is right is welcome to Him. ³⁶ The word which He sent to the sons of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ (He is Lord of all)—” (Acts 10:34-36).

How do we respond to Him Who Will Establish His Everlasting Equity?

The day is coming when He Will Establish His Everlasting Equity in His land and will end all oppression, violence and destruction, as He effects His Perfect Justice, Righteousness, and Impartiality.

But until that day, let us take to heart the words of the apostle Peter.

To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit; ⁹ not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing,” (1 Peter 3:8-9).

Let us seek to live in the inherited blessing of our salvation today, that we would live each day choosing to walk in humility so as to be an extension of the harmony, sympathy, and kindness effected in us through our faith in Christ.

Oh, let us not wait for that day; but let us live today and every day under His rule of peace, that we would walk in our calling with eternal gratitude that through faith in Christ, we have been Established in His Everlasting Equity.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful, (Colossians 3:15).
