Exodus 10 … Consider His Realm of Jurisdiction

His Realm of Jurisdiction, as conveyed in Exodus 10, is without boundaries; it is not confined by time, and is only limited if He so chooses.

There is nothing in all creation that is outside His Realm of Jurisdiction.

Consider His Realm of Jurisdiction

• His Realm of Jurisdiction encompasses humanity.
  • “Go to Pharaoh, for I have hardened his heart and the heart of his servants,” (10:1).
    • “Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh; is anything too difficult for Me?” (Jeremiah 32:27).

• His Realm of Jurisdiction encompasses the nations.
  • Pharaoh’s servants said to him, ‘How long will this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, that they may serve the Lord their God. Do you not realize that Egypt is destroyed?’” (10:7).
    • All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the Lord,
      And all the families of the nations will worship before You.
      ²⁸ For the kingdom is the Lord’s
      And He rules over the nations, (Psalm 22:27-28).

• His Realm of Jurisdiction encompasses the physical world.
  • …and the Lord directed an east wind on the land all that day and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts… ¹⁹ So the the Lord shifted the wind to a very strong west wind which took up the locusts and drove them into the Red Sea; not one locust was left in all the territory of Egypt, (10:13, 19).
    • The earth is the Lord’s, and all it contains,
      The world, and those who dwell in it, (Psalm 24:1).

• His Realm of Jurisdiction encompasses the supernatural world.
  • Then the Lord said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even a darkness which may be felt.” ²² So Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days. ²³ They did not see one another, nor did anyone rise from his place for three days, but all the sons of Israel had light in their dwellings, (10:21-23).
    • He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. ¹⁶ For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him, (Colossians 1:15-16).

• His Realm of Jurisdiction encompasses the future.
  • “and that you may tell in the hearing of your son, and of your grandson, how I made a mockery of the Egyptians and how I performed My signs among them, that you may know that I am the Lord,” (10:2).
    • “…For I am God, and there is no other;
      I am God, and there is no one like Me,
      ¹⁰ Declaring the end from the beginning,
      And from ancient times things which have not been done,
      Saying, ‘My purpose will be established,
      And I will accomplish all My good pleasure;” (Isaiah 46:9-10).
    • “But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come,” (John 16:13).

How do we respond to His Realm of Jurisdiction?

Exodus 10 begins with the LORD explaining the “why” behind His Realm of Jurisdiction, “that you may know that I am the Lord,” (10:2). He wants us to know Him personally as LORD!

Is it not beyond comprehension that He invites us to know Him? He could, after all, force us into submission; for His Realm of Jurisdiction encompasses all of creation. And yet, through His outstretched nail-pierced hands, He lovingly bids us to come. Today, may we willingly bow before Him as LORD.

There is coming a day when His invitation will cease; but still all will bow…

…so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, ¹¹ and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father, (Philippians 2:10-11).

He is LORD and He has made Himself known through His Realm of Jurisdiction: through His actions throughout history; through His inspired, infallible Word; through His sacrifice on the cross; and through His Holy Spirit given to those surrendered to Him in faith.

How unfathomable are His ways. What a joy and privilege to live in His light daily, to willfully surrender to His Realm of Jurisdiction and bow before Him now.

As we consider His all-encompassing Realm of Jurisdiction and His inexplicably amazing grace, may our hearts and lives exhibit the gratitude and worship expressed in Psalm 100.

Shout joyfully to the Lord, all the earth.
² Serve the Lord with gladness;
Come before Him with joyful singing.
³ Know that the Lord Himself is God;
It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;
We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

⁴ Enter His gates with thanksgiving
And His courts with praise.
Give thanks to Him, bless His name.
⁵ For the Lord is good;
His lovingkindness is everlasting
And His faithfulness to all generations.
