Numbers 31 … Consider Him Who Executes Vengeance

Consider Him Who Executes Vengeance

The battle that ensued was horrific. And yes, with our human understanding, there is much we can’t explain; but the fact is, God is beyond man’s ability to explain.

I confess that I find it difficult to reconcile the events of this chapter in Numbers with the God of grace and love revealed through the gift of His Son, Jesus. But His love and grace do not eradicate His righteous Vengeance; and in our finite and limited understanding, we are unable to truly comprehend His holiness and the seriousness of rebellion and sin.

The events described in Numbers 31 are hideous, shocking and offensive, and the tragic result of sin. As we consider Him Who Executes Vengeance, we must not attempt to align Holy God with man’s vengeance. As we seek Him in the pages of Scripture He reveals His Truth; He is holy and perfect in His wisdom, His justice, and His Vengeance.

How do we respond to Him Who Executes Vengeance?

As we walk in faith and love, trusting Him Who Executes Vengeance, let us pray that even our enemies might be overcome by the mercy and goodness of God.
