Moses continues teaching the LORD’s commandments to prepare God’s people to take possession of the land. We learn His statutes and judgments were not a list of do’s and don’ts; rather God’s Law was always intended to turn our attention to Him and all He has done.
He rescued His children, not for the mere sake of rescue. He did not open wide the prison doors and set them free into a place without purpose. The LORD set His people free in order to bring them into relationship and fellowship with Himself. He Brought Us Out to Bring Us In… to His presence, to His grace, and to His love.
“When your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What do the testimonies and the statutes and the judgments mean which the Lord our God commanded you?’ 21 then you shall say to your son, ‘We were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt, and the Lord brought us from Egypt with a mighty hand. 22 Moreover, the Lord showed great and distressing signs and wonders before our eyes against Egypt, Pharaoh and all his household; 23He brought us out from there in order to bring us in, to give us the land which He had sworn to our fathers, (6:20-23 emphasis added).
Consider Him Who Brought Us Out to Bring Us In
- He Brought Us Out to Bring Us In… to the Place of Obedience.
- “Now this is the commandment, the statutes and the judgments which the Lord your God has commanded me to teach you, that you might do them…” (6:1).
- He Brought Us Out to Bring Us In… to the Place of Humility.
- “… so that you and your son and your grandson might fear the Lord your God,” (6:2).
- He Brought Us Out to Bring Us In… to the Place of Love.
- “Hear, O Israel! The Lord is our God, the Lord is one! 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might,” (6:4-5).
- He Brought Us Out to Bring Us In… to the Place of Transformation.
- “These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up,” (6:6-7).
- He Brought Us Out to Bring Us In… to the Place of Worship.
- “You shall fear only the Lord your God; and you shall worship Him and swear by His name,” (6:13).
- He Brought Us Out to Bring Us In… to the Place of Blessing.
- “You shall do what is right and good in the sight of the Lord, that it may be well with you and that you may go in and possess the good land which the Lord swore to give your fathers,” (6:18).
- He Brought Us Out to Bring Us In… to the Place of Safety.
- “…by driving out all your enemies from before you, as the Lord has spoken,” (6:19).
How do we respond to Him Who Brought Us Out to Bring Us In?
What the LORD God did for the nation Israel, when He Brought them Out of the bondage of slavery in Egypt to Bring them In to the place of His Promise, foreshadows what He would later do by His Son Jesus, for all who would place their faith in His sacrifice on the cross.
He Brought Us Out of the domain of darkness to Bring Us In… to the Place of His Promise: the Kingdom of His Beloved Son.
For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins, (Colossians 1:13-14).
He Brought Us Out of the domain of darkness to Bring Us In… to the Place of His Promise: the Place of Obedience, Humility, Love, Transformation, Worship, Blessing, and Safety.
- He Brought Us Out to Bring Us In… to the Place of His Promise; let us intentionally listen to His Word and experience the blessings of obedience.
- “O Israel, you should listen and be careful to do it, that it may be well with you and that you may multiply greatly, just as the Lord, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey,” (6:3).
- But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves, (James 1:22).

- He Brought Us Out to Bring Us In… to the Place of His Promise; let us never forget or take His grace for granted.
- “Then it shall come about when the Lord your God brings you into the land which He swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give you, great and splendid cities which you did not build, 11 and houses full of all good things which you did not fill, and hewn cisterns which you did not dig, vineyards and olive trees which you did not plant, and you eat and are satisfied, 12 then watch yourself, that you do not forget the Lord who brought you from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery,” (6:10-12).
- What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase? 2 May it never be! How shall we who died to sin still live in it? (Ephesians 6:1-2).
- He Brought Us Out to Bring Us In… to the Place of His Promise; let us be attentive and guard ourselves against the surrounding temptations to love and serve someone or something other than the Lord our God. May we carefully heed His warnings as we depend on His Holy Spirit to enable us to endure.
- “You shall not follow other gods, any of the gods of the peoples who surround you, 15 for the Lord your God in the midst of you is a jealous God…” (6:14-15).
- Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed that he does not fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it, (1 Corinthians 10:12-13).
