“God thunders with His voice wondrously,
Doing great things which we cannot comprehend…
14 Listen to this, O Job,
Stand and consider the wonders of God,” (37:5, 14).
I opened my Bible to chapter 37 with this thought in mind, “I can’t wait for tomorrow, when we will finally get to hear directly from God.” I have found myself longing to hear His Voice, not the assumptions and assessments of man. And I was happy to see statements referring to His Voice, repeated five times… and we know when God repeats Himself…well, let’s stand and consider the Wonders of His Voice!
“Listen to this, O Job,
Stand and consider the wonders of God,” (37:14).
Consider the Wonders of His Voice
- The Wonders of His Voice are made known through His Works.
- “Listen closely to the thunder of His voice,
And the rumbling that goes out from His mouth.
3 “Under the whole heaven He lets it loose,
And His lightning to the ends of the earth.
4 “After it, a voice roars;
He thunders with His majestic voice,
And He does not restrain the lightnings when His voice is heard…
10 “From the breath of God ice is made,
And the expanse of the waters is frozen.
11 “Also with moisture He loads the thick cloud;
He disperses the cloud of His lightning, (37:2-4, 10-11). - By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,
And by the breath of His mouth all their host…
9 For He spoke, and it was done;
He commanded, and it stood fast, (Psalm 33:6, 9).
- “Listen closely to the thunder of His voice,
- The Wonders of His Voice are made known through His Wisdom.
- “God thunders with His voice wondrously,
Doing great things which we cannot comprehend…
12 “It changes direction, turning around by His guidance,
That it may do whatever He commands it
On the face of the inhabited earth.
13 “Whether for correction, or for His world,
Or for lovingkindness, He causes it to happen…
15 “Do you know how God establishes them,
And makes the lightning of His cloud to shine?
16 “Do you know about the layers of the thick clouds,
The wonders of one perfect in knowledge, (37:5, 12-13, 15-16). - For the Lord gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding, (Proverbs 2:6).
- “God thunders with His voice wondrously,
- The Wonders of His Voice are made known through His Words.
- Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and said, (Job 38:1).
- Then the Lord answered Job out of the storm and said, (Job 40:6).
- For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe, (1 Thessalonians 2:13).
- The Wonders of His Voice are made known through His Written Word
- Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may have success wherever you go. 8 This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success, (Joshua 1:8).
- For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart, (Hebrews 4:12).
- The Wonders of His Voice are made known through His Living Word
- And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth, (John 1:14).
- “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life,” (John 6:63).
- “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand,” (John 10:27-28).
How do we respond to the Wonder of His Voice?
Considering the Wonders of His Voice is refreshing, and humbling, and oh so very wonderful; and it is exactly what we need today. For amidst all the clamor of our times, we need to stand and consider the Wonders of God’s Voice.
He makes Himself heard so that we would come into relationship with Him through faith.
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ, (Romans 10:17).
He draws us to obedience by the Wonders of His Voice, that we may enjoy His blessings.
“But this is what I commanded them, saying, ‘Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you will be My people; and you will walk in all the way which I command you, that it may be well with you,’” (Jeremiah 7:23).
What a glorious privilege we have to consider the Wonders of His Voice. Let us not take it for granted.
- Let us consider the Wonders of His Voice as we see His Works revealed in creation.
- The heavens are telling of the glory of God;
And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands, (Psalm 19:1).
- The heavens are telling of the glory of God;
- Let us expect to hear the Wonders of His Voice as we call out to Him for Wisdom.
- “Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know,” (Jeremiah 33:3).
- Let us depend on the Wonders of His Voice as He faithfully leads us by His Words.
- “Your ears will hear a word behind you, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ whenever you turn to the right or to the left,” (Isaiah 30:21).
- Let us pursue the Wonders of His Voice as we spend time with Him in His Written Word.
- All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, (2 Timothy 3:16).
- And let us live victorious, knowing the day is coming when we will hear the Living Word declare all the Wonders of His Voice as He calls us to life with Him for all eternity.
- “Truly, truly, I say to you, an hour is coming and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live,” (John 5:25).
How can we not open the door daily and invite Him into our hearts; to partake of intimate fellowship with the great and majestic, holy and powerful God? Oh, may we never miss the opportunity to respond in faith and obedience to the glorious Wonders of His Voice.
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me,” (Revelation 3:20).
