And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus, (4:19).
It’s Christmas time! And it is likely that some family members have asked you for your wish list; and perhaps, you are hoping to receive some of those gifts you want. But today, we can be assured that we definitely have every gift we need, “according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
This short book of Philippians is my favorite book in the Bible. It holds my life verse, Philippians 4:8, and is a source of encouragement toward what I need most… to have my mind transformed, to move away from fixating on the negative, and to dwell on whatever is excellent and worthy of praise. And Paul could write this exhortation with authority and confidence, for he knew Him Who Richly Supplies Our Needs “according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
So today, in this final chapter of the book of joy, we have been given a gift we truly need; the glorious opportunity to consider and dwell on what is truly excellent and so very worthy of praise.
Consider Him Who Richly Supplies Our Needs
- He Richly Supplies Our Needs, beginning with His gift of eternal life.
- Indeed, true companion, I ask you also to help these women who have shared my struggle in the cause of the gospel, together with Clement also and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the book of life, (4:3).
- He Richly Supplies Our Need for His joy and His presence.
- Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! 5 Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near, (4:4-5).
- He Richly Supplies Our Need for deliverance from anxiety.
- Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God, (4:6).
- He Richly Supplies Our Need for peace that is beyond human comprehension.
- And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus, (4:7).
- He Richly Supplies Our Need for contentment in every circumstance.
- Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. 12 I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need, (4:11-12).
- He Richly Supplies Our Need for strength in all things.
- I can do all things through Him who strengthens me, (4:13).
- He Richly Supplies Our Need from His abundant riches in glory.
- And my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus, (4:19).
- He Richly Supplies Our Need through His amazing grace.
- The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, (4:23).
How do we respond to Him Who Richly Supplies Our Needs?
It’s amazing to think that every need we have, He Richly Supplies; and His Supply is unequaled for it is “according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Out of His abundant wealth and His unparalleled splendor, He Richly Supplies Our Needs! But sadly, we so easily forget.
During the Christmas season, as we prepare to share in the giving and receiving of gifts with our family and loved ones, let us first give thanks for His most amazing Gift in Jesus, Who Richly Supplies Our Needs.
Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! (2 Corinthians 9:15).
And let us follow the counsel of the apostle Paul, that we would daily dwell on His Word, so excellent and worthy of praise, with gratitude. Oh, let us treasure the indescribable Gift of His Word that reveals the indescribable Gift of all that God has done for us “according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus;” fully persuaded that as we are obedient to practice all He reveals, He will be faithful to Richly Supply Our Needs.
Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. 9 The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you, (Philippians 4:8-9).
Oh, that we would daily and gratefully dwell on His Truth! And surely as we do, He will Richly Supply us with the assurance of our eternal life as He sets us free to experience His joy and His presence, His deliverance and peace from anxiety, and contentment wherever we find ourselves; all “according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine; 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free,” (John 8:31-32).
Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! (2 Corinthians 9:15).
