Happy New Year… What’s Next for The Planting Place in 2025

So teach us to number our days,
That we may present to You a heart of wisdom, (Psalm 90:12).

Time Flies!

At lunch on Sunday, my dear friend shared a story of a young girl she mentors. In their discussion together about an event, this young girl commented, “that was in the 1900’s.” And my friend and I laughed, realizing that at our age the 1900’s depict the horse and buggy days at the turn of the century.

But the unbelievable fact is, many today think of the turn of the century as turning into the year 2000. The 1900’s are 25 years behind us!

With that thought in mind, I was reminded of our desperate need to number our days, because the truth is… time flies!

So teach us to number our days,
That we may present to You a heart of wisdom, (Psalm 90:12).

What’s Next for The Planting Place?

From 2019 to 2021, The Planting Place followed a three-year reading plan through the entire Bible and posted daily by Considering some glorious aspect of our Great and Glorious God in every chapter of Scripture. These posts were re-published in 2022, 2023 and 2024. With this coming new year, I knew it was  time for a change, but quite honestly wasn’t sure what that would mean…until December 28th; reminding me that His timetable is not mine, and He is always perfectly faithful!

The plan for this year is to read through every page of the Bible in chronological order (2025 reading plan), and hopefully post a reflection each week about a Truth gleaned from the previous seven days’ reading. I am also asking the Lord for one passage of Scripture each week to commit to memory, that He would have His way in me.

Your word I have treasured in my heart,
That I may not sin against You, (Psalm 119:11).

It has been my habit for many years to ask the Lord for a specific theme with a predetermined intentional objective for each new year to lead me in my time with Him in His Word.  The last nine years have been spent intentionally pursuing the goal of John the Baptist: He must increase, but I must decrease,” (John 3:30). And that was the beginning of The Planting Place: to Consider Him in every chapter of His Holy Inspired Word.

For this coming year, my predetermined intentional objective in approaching His God-Breathed Word is beautifully scripted in Psalm 1:1-3 (emphasis added):

How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.

Any time I read of a “planting” in Scripture, my heart soars (this is also my first passage of Scripture to commit to memory in 2025). This year, I am boldly asking the Lord to enable me to become like that tree planted by His streams of water, that I would be truly prosperous for His glory in 2025; and I am trusting that He will be faithful to hear and answer.

My prayer is that each week during my time with Him in His Word, He would lead me into a deeper understanding of a Truth that is essential if I am to flourish and yield fruit for Him; that I would truly number my days so that my leaf does not wither, as I make the most of the time He has allotted me.

I am asking the Lord to firmly plant me in His Truth as He graciously plants His Truth in me, and that day and night I would find all my delight in the Word of God and the God of His Word.

I invite you to join me. I would love to hear from you!
