Autonomous: self-governing; independent; subject to its own laws only; having autonomy; not subject to control from outside; independent.

Architecture: the complex or carefully designed structure of something.

Nothing is accidental in the construction of the tabernacle. Nothing is undecided. There was no committee to deliberate over color, fabric, materials, or methods. This was to be the LORD’s dwelling place; it would be His complex and carefully designed structure, His Autonomous Architecture.

Consider His Autonomous Architecture

His Autonomous Architecture would be the blueprint for the tabernacle in its entirety. (26:1-6)

His Autonomous Architecture would protect and cover the tabernacle. (26:7-14)

His Autonomous Architecture would erect the tabernacle. (26:15-30)

His Autonomous Architecture would consecrate the tabernacle as holy. (26:33)

His Autonomous Architecture would veil off the holy of holies.(26:31-35)

His Autonomous Architecture would make a doorway, providing access to the place of His dwelling. (26:36-37)

How do we respond to His Autonomous Architecture?

The LORD called His people to construct His sanctuary for one purpose: that He would dwell among His people.

“Let them construct a sanctuary for Me, that I may dwell among them,” (Exodus 25:8).

Jesus came as His exact representation to dwell among His people.

And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth, (John 1: 14).

in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. ³ And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, (Hebrews 1:2-3a).

Jesus came in the flesh to dwell among His people. Through His perfect life, His sacrificial death on the cross, and His glorious resurrection, Christ established the way that He would then dwell in [our] hearts through faith.

so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith…(Ephesians 3:17).

• His Autonomous Architecture would be the blueprint for the tabernacle in its entirety.
  • If we are to become His tabernacle, it must be by His design alone.
    • Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me” (John 14:6).

• His Autonomous Architecture would protect and cover the tabernacle.
  • We can be assured of His covering and protection when we are born again into that blessed and living hope.
    • Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, ⁴ to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable and undefiled and will not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, ⁵ who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time, (1 Peter 1:3-5).

• His Autonomous Architecture would erect the tabernacle.
  • We can trust Him to build us up in Him; it is His work and He will complete it.
    • Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus, (Philippians 1:6).

• His Autonomous Architecture would consecrate the tabernacle as holy.
  • May we understand the seriousness of His call to holiness; as His tabernacle we are to be the dwelling place of His Holy Spirit.
    • Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? ²⁰ For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

• His Autonomous Architecture would veil off the holy of holies.
  • He is perfect in holiness; we cannot dwell with Him based on our own merit. Let us live in humility and gratitude; for Jesus has torn down the barrier and granted us access to His Holy Presence through the sacrifice of His blood.
    • And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. ⁵¹ And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split, (Matthew 27:50-51).
    • Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, ²⁰ by the new and living way opened for us through the curtain of His body, (Hebrews 10:19-20 Berean Study Bible).

• His Autonomous Architecture would make a doorway, providing access to the place of His dwelling.
  • He has granted us access to His dwelling place through faith in Christ alone.
    • “I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture,” (John 10:9).

What an amazing gift, to be invited to dwell with Him and Him in us! But it is our choice. We choose to receive His gift when we, by faith, invite Him to dwell with us and within us. He is the initiator; but He knocks and He will never force admission. Let us open the door wide, that we would grant Him access to our life in its entirety, with reckless abandon and total faith.

Oh, LORD Jesus please come into every area of our lives, that we may commune and dwell with you in holy surrender.

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me,” (Revelation 3:20).
